Long queues have returned in fuel stations in the Sokoto state capital.

In many petrol stations owned by independent marketers, the product was not being sold while those who were selling it sold the product at about N150, N5 more than the pump price.

The queues were noticed at filing stations owned by major marketers as they complied with the pump price.

Many motorists however complained of spending several hours waiting to get the product at such filing stations.

‎"The situation was not like this yesterday, all of a sudden ,this queue just emerged today, we don't know what caused this problem," a motorist Aliyu Musa stated.

He added, “I have been on this queue for close to two hours   now."

Other motorists who spoke lamented the situation describing it as artificial scarcity caused by shylock marketers.

Operations Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), in Sokoto, Mr Mohammed Makera ‎noted the situation as a nationwide problem.

He assured that efforts were on by the federal government towards ensuring adequate supply of the petroleum products nationwide.

‎Makera disclosed that Petroleum supply from the NNPC Depot in Gusau to Sokoto rose to about 23 trucks last Monday.

The DPR controller cautioned against panic buying.

‎He ‎warned marketers  that DPR was not relenting in its monitoring  and surveillance exercises.
