An 11-year-old boy, Ayo Afolabi, has allegedly shot and killed his friend, Comfort Emmanuel, with his father’s dane gun while the two children were playing with the loaded gun.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, January 11 at the Ayeyemi area of Ondo town.

According to The Punch, the father of the boy, Olanrewaju Afolabi, who is a farmer had earlier used the gun for hunting. Afolabi was not at home when his son picked the gun from where it was kept.
Some residents who witnessed the incident disclosed that the boy suddenly pulled the trigger on his female friend and shot her on the spot while they were both playing.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo Command, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident said that Afolabi and his son have both been arrested.
He said: “It was due to negligence on the part of the father. He loaded the dane gun and kept it carelessly. The kids picked the gun and were playing with it, and the boy accidentally killed the little girl."
“The father and the boy are with us and I think the father has some explanations to make concerning that incident.“
Joseph also advised parents to always keep away weapons from the reach of their children to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The little girl's corpse has been taken to the morgue.
